Who
My name is Kym Carr and I am the one-woman-band behind Dream Bird Wines.
After studying Horticulture at the University of Western Australia I moved to Dunsborough in 1999. I worked for a viticulturalist for a couple of years and then headed overseas to complete my first vintage. It was during this eye-opening trip to Beaujolais France in 2001 that I was sold – winemaking was my future.
Upon my return to the South West of WA, I joined the team at Vasse Felix where I found a great team…. Oh and the love of my life and future husband. I completed my Oenology studies through Charles Sturt University over the following four years after which I took on winemaking stints at Deep Wood and Juniper Estate.
Fast forward a few years and with two children in tow, the hatching of Dream Bird Wines in 2015 was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me to make something of my own, to build something bigger than just myself, and make good on my promise to Birdie, my younger Sister, to live my best life.
I wear every hat at Dream Bird Wines. I source the fruit, work with growers, make the wine, bottle the wine, label the wine and even, deliver the wine.
After 25 years in the industry, I have well and truly found myself and my rhythm. I’m making unapologetic, eloquent and thoughtful wines – in the most beautiful place in the world.
When I’m not in the vineyard, the winery or the office – you’ll find me swimming, surfing, mustering two teenage boys and a husband, or snuggling with my loyal and loving labradoodle.
